There have been and are many many photographers worldwide, so why should we suggest that some are better than others.
how do we dare award any photographer his or her zeebrastripe honours. one principle to consider is the difference between recording a scene, perhaps like a fashion shoot where the core work is perhaps made by the stylist, compare to a photographer photographing the chaos of real life but somehow managing to create art in the image.

Another principle is depth and breath of work.
if you take enough snaps you will eventually stumble into a great image, but can you do it time and time again.
please consider that whilst great photographers do amass a volume of outstanding work, even they typically only leave around 40 stunning images, or approxiately 1 per year during their lifetime! our list is just developing, excuse the pun and is open to challenge, but to kick off, we hope you are inspired by this wave of photographers.

william klein

This guy was misunderstood by the photographic establishment. his work was considered rough, raw and lacking technical competence. The thing is, that when you look at his stuff it has energy and beauty, qualities that even led him into high end street based fashion photography. If you want to follow klein in your photography then you have selected a tough gig, but if you succeed, the results will be outstanding. We have not found a pure klein website but the reference we have chosen should give you a good insight

Now one of the real forces in world photography of the people in conflict, work and the challenges of life. defined by black and white images which have been beautifully crafted in the darkroom. Our chosen website reference, only shows one area of his work, but it is one of the best sites we have found for a fast appreciation of salgado.

tom stoddart
